What Kind of Woman puts me in my feelings。 Baer writes about the multifaceted female experience eloquently and honestly。 I read the entire book in one sitting, eager to turn every page。 I'm a poet/love poetry, but I think this book is perfect even if you don't typically read poetry。 What Kind of Woman puts me in my feelings。 Baer writes about the multifaceted female experience eloquently and honestly。 I read the entire book in one sitting, eager to turn every page。 I'm a poet/love poetry, but I think this book is perfect even if you don't typically read poetry。 。。。more

Stunning

A beautiful book of poetry that looks at the soul of women in all their humanity。 With every page I my gut would churn or relax or tighten and I would just think “me too me too me too”

Emily

Would love to revisit this when/if I become a mother, as about a third of the poems centred on this theme

I don't normally read poetry, but I absolutely loved this。 I want to share it with every woman I know。 I don't normally read poetry, but I absolutely loved this。 I want to share it with every woman I know。 。。。more

Some lovely stuff here, especially about motherhood。 I tried to stretch and savor it but devoured it in three chunks。 The eternal blessing and curse of poetry collections。

Some beautiful work, but personally not my cup of tea。

In this book of poems, Kate writes with unflinching honesty about marriage, womanhood, and motherhood。 Insightful and thought-provoking。

Brilliant collection of poems !!

Short,funny,somewhat bittersweet poems!

I liked some of her poems A LOT; mostly the first part。 I'm not a wife or mother, so some of the other poems didn't resonate quite as much for me。 (And I can't give her fewer than 5 stars just for that) I liked some of her poems A LOT; mostly the first part。 I'm not a wife or mother, so some of the other poems didn't resonate quite as much for me。 (And I can't give her fewer than 5 stars just for that) 。。。more

What a beautiful collection! I particularly loved Part I。 Kate Baer put to words what I have only been able to feel, and in some cases she put to words what I don't allow myself to feel。 This is a book I will be coming back to over and over! Favorite poems (after my first reading): To Take Back a Life, Robyn Hood, Fresh Lemonade, and Missed Connections (although this one made me so sad I did cry for a bit) What a beautiful collection! Just what I needed to read today。

This was on my list and I luckily happened upon it at the library。 A good, quick read - some were great but overall wasn’t wow’d。

A few of these poems hit me hard while others I struggled to connect with。 The ones that resonated with me left an impact though。 Part 3 wasn’t as powerful for me since it was centered on motherhood, but I still felt connected to a few from the daughter perspective。 I’d like to read this again when I am a mom。 *goes to recommend it to all my mom friends immediately*

I read this in an afternoon。 I am not a mother or a wife - the topics of many of the poems。 I wanted to experience something more profound。 We are more than mothers and wives。 Maybe this isn’t for me yet。 I can see myself re-reading this collection as I grow。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Liked it。 But I guess I’m not the audience this book is made for。 Guess I’m still too young。 But I still liked it。 I could still understand certain aspects of it and that I really liked。 I think my fave quote from it was: „I will never be as young as the night I put on a long red dress and danced in the street with you。“ ❤️ - from the poem „twenties“

Commencement Address When I take my evening walk, I unlock rooms I never emant to close, which is one way to write a book。 Another is to peel an orange or take a shower or fall in love with someone dangerous。 At any given moment there is someone getting what they always wanted。 I know no quicker way to ruin a daythan to dwell on this。started off very strong, became lukewarm and forgettable in the middle。

Beautiful short read。 🌸 Something different from my normal read。 Such a refreshing take on being women with reminders of how life is for us。

I’m sure this book is wonderful for some individuals, but I am just not quite there (nor do I ever really plan to be。。。 with her focus on children and motherhood)。 I’m glad I can chalk this up to poetry experience, but this was not my cup of tea。

This is art。 There’s a depth of feeling I can’t fully explain - so much to say you should absolutely read this book。

I enjoyed Baer’s poetry。 I do think the poems feel more poignant as an interruption while scrolling Instagram (the context in which I initially came across them) than all together in a book。 There were three sections of this book of poetry and I liked each increasingly more than the last。 The first section, while I largely agreed with their sentiments, relied a bit too much on shock factor for my taste, but the meditations on marriage and motherhood in sections 2 and 3 were lovely。 I will return I enjoyed Baer’s poetry。 I do think the poems feel more poignant as an interruption while scrolling Instagram (the context in which I initially came across them) than all together in a book。 There were three sections of this book of poetry and I liked each increasingly more than the last。 The first section, while I largely agreed with their sentiments, relied a bit too much on shock factor for my taste, but the meditations on marriage and motherhood in sections 2 and 3 were lovely。 I will return to section 3 after I myself am a mother in a few months! 。。。more

Devoured this in one sitting and highlighted so many beautiful lines。

This is a book of poetry that in turns spoke to me and also made me wish I didn’t relate so much to the poems themselves。 It’s about womanhood, motherhood, and being a wife and all the messiness that ensues。 It also made me wish I were a poet myself。 This seems to be a good outlet for her frustrations。

I know I'm in a reading slump, because the only books I can tolerate right now are poetry。 This book was the first time I tried reading poetry by audiobook。 I usually have to read poetry really slow, and can only read a few poems at a time before I have to take a break to process, so this was definitely a different reading experience。All in all, I really enjoyed this collection。 I would say this is generally more of a 4-star read, however, there was one huge reason why I've bumped it up--accessi I know I'm in a reading slump, because the only books I can tolerate right now are poetry。 This book was the first time I tried reading poetry by audiobook。 I usually have to read poetry really slow, and can only read a few poems at a time before I have to take a break to process, so this was definitely a different reading experience。All in all, I really enjoyed this collection。 I would say this is generally more of a 4-star read, however, there was one huge reason why I've bumped it up--accessibility。 This collection is a really great entry point into poetry。 It isn't complicated, bloviated, or drenched in purple prose。 Baer's style is straightforward。 That doesn't mean it lacks beauty, it just isn't full of self-importance。 Most poetry is extremely unaccessible meaning is veiled it lines upon lines of complicated language。 Poetry doesn't need to be that way, and actually is more enjoyable when anyone can read it。I'd recommend this one to most people。 It is gorgeous, and I enjoyed most of the poems。 。。。more

3。5 Poems are a hard thing to rate because if you can't relate, or aren't in that stage of life, or flat out disagree with the sentiment, it feels like they are bad poems。 They aren't; the feelings behind them just aren't for you。 Some of these poems were great and resonated, and others fell flat, but I think its mostly because those didn't speak to me individually。 Some of the ones about motherhood actually seemed like an ad for remaining child-free, which I found sad until I realized that was 3。5 Poems are a hard thing to rate because if you can't relate, or aren't in that stage of life, or flat out disagree with the sentiment, it feels like they are bad poems。 They aren't; the feelings behind them just aren't for you。 Some of these poems were great and resonated, and others fell flat, but I think its mostly because those didn't speak to me individually。 Some of the ones about motherhood actually seemed like an ad for remaining child-free, which I found sad until I realized that was the point。 If the poems made you (me) feel anything, then the writer did their job。 They made something seem relatable (albeit awful), even if its not something I can relate to in reality。 The book was a very short read so I'd say it was worth it, even if you only end up liking a few of the poems。 I can understand why so many have rated the book higher, having more intimate experiences with some of the topics。 。。。more
